Where Is Your Home Office? i.e. basement, spare room
On the main floor between the family room and the dining room, close to the kitchen
How Big Is It?
Small - about 10x10 feet
Do You Use Your Office for Anything Besides Work?
Not really, but it gets a lot of pass through traffic because it is so close to the family room.
What's in Your Home Office?
-my laptop, a back-up hard drive and printer
-a landline and my cell phone
-a spacious round table (that I try not to cover with papers) is my desk.
- a smaller table next to my desk where I put my "important papers" plus baskets of less important papers
-a little-used filing cabinet, for if I ever empty the baskets
-shelves with dictionaries, style books, office supplies, old issues of magazines are just behind my chair in easy reach.
My Home Office Works for Me Because...
I like the fact that it is close to where the kids are (most of the time). I probably multitask too much, but I like being near the kitchen where I can keep an eye on what's on the stove.
Though it is small, it has everything I need. And everything is within my reach when I am sitting at my desk.
What I'd Do Differently
- I wish I could have a second home office somewhere else for those times when I find being on the main floor distracting. Just a little desk where I could plop my laptop and close the door. In fact, I would really love it if I could have a second office in an outbuilding in the garden. That would be great! maybe I'd write a novel or something. Hal!
