Stock a Work-at-Home Travel Bag
Work-at-Home Mom Tip #14

By , About.com Guide

While it seems counter-intuitive to the whole concept of being a work-at-home mom, often WAHMs do work outside the house. Going to the gym with child care facilities was one trick I employed. But piano lessons, soccer practice and doctor appointments often provide opportunities to do some effective multitasking.

To be ready on short notice to make use of these bits of extra time, prepare a bag of work-related supplies in advance. Keep the bag in your office, so you can add to it. It might just be the place you keep all your work reading material, so it's always ready to go when you are.

Use an old briefcase or a large canvas bag, and stock it with some permanent supplies.

  • pens
  • highlighters
  • notebook
  • clipboard
  • calculator
Plus leave room to add your work for the day and your laptop or netbook. On the clipboard keep a list of possible tasks that can be done outside your home office or have a folder of reading material ready. This way you don’t have to think too much as you’re running out the door.
