Industry:

Data entry

Company Description:

Lionbridge Technology, Inc., acquired crowdsourcing company Virtual Solutions, the parent company of VirtualBee (which changed its name from KeyForCash), in 2012. VirtualBee uses a workforce of home-based independent contractors to securely enter its clients data, using technology that only allows each of the data entry keyers to see a portion of the confidential original data.

Lionbridge in its other divisions hires search engine evaluators and translators. See profile of Lionbridge.

Types of Work-at-Home Opportunities at VirtualBee:

Home-based data entry operators log on to the VirtualBee system and choose data entry tasks. They see an image of the data and then must enter it with accuracy.

Pay and Benefits:

All data-entry keyers are hired as independent contractors. This means there are no benefits and no guarantee of minimum wage. (Read more about how and what data entry companies pay.) Payment is on a per piece basis, and different types of data entry pay at different rates. Expect the per-piece rate to work out to about $5-6 per hour.

Pays weekly by check, but the minimum amount paid out is $30. Hours are flexible but there may be certain days of the week or periods during the year when work is not available.

Qualifications and Requirements:

You also must be at least 18 years old to work for VirtualBee. A score of 97 to 100 percent on the evaluation test is the main qualification of this job.

The company hires worldwide. (See more WAH jobs hiring globally.) However, the company divides it's workers into two groups--one is for those who reside in the continental 48 United States and the second is for all international individuals (as long as they have maintained a physical presence outside of the United States for the previous 3 consecutive calendar years).

Technical requirements are a computer with an Internet connection and a web browser with JavaScript enabled.

Applying to VirtualBee:

Click on "Sign Up" on the VirtualBee website, then fill in the short form with basic information about yourself. You will then receive an email with a link to a three-part evaluation. This is a test of your data-entry keying ability. It is important that you follow the directions carefully. You will need a score in the high 90s (on a 100-point scale) to become registered at Virtual Bee. However, you can retake the evaluation once a day until you achieve that score.

It may take 6 to 8 weeks to hear back from VirtualBee. There are no fees of any kind to work here. However, you may see advertised offers on its website. Participating in these is not required and will not improve your chances of being hired.
