For new work-at-home moms, it seems like healthy living should come easy now. Giving up the commute means extra time for exercise. Plus all those office birthday parties and fundraising candy bar sales can't derail your healthy living goals.
But working from home presents new problems in maintaining healthy living habits. A stocked refrigerator is only a few steps away. And kids snack frequently so avoiding the kitchen is not easy. All that time saved by eliminating the commute may not be used for a new exercise regiment but for household chores and child care.

Eating
Make it easy to eat right by stocking your kitchen with healthy foods that you and your family will want to eat. You'll be fighting temptation all day long if you don't. So if it means extra time chopping veggies or fruit, it's worth it.I make a big pitcher of iced tea (decaffeinated so I can drink all day). This keeps me well hydrated. But also having something to drink, instead of eat, keeps me from snacking.

Exercising
Working from home puts a whole new set up time constraints on a mom, especially if she doesn't have outside child care help. With the household tasks, child care and work, fitting exercise into your day can prove difficult. Time won't just appear in your schedule for exercise. You have to make the time. When my kids were preschoolers, I joined a gym with child care. The two hours of free child care the gym provided gave me time to work out and then spend some time in the gym's lobby making calls or organizing my day, while the kids were still enjoying their playtime.
