Whether or not your kids are on winter break, it's likely that there's no school on Monday due to Presidents' Day. This is one of Monday holidays that you may or may not have off from work but that most school systems do have off.
So what's a parent to do? For many who may usually work in an office , this is a perfect time to work at home. But for the occasional or part-time telecommuter making sure kids know and follow your work at home ground rules is essential. Actually it's essential for any work at home parent, even those of us who work at home full time. After all, we can all forget the rules.
So if you plan to work while your kids are home, go over the rules. Remind them what your schedule is and when it's appropriate (e.g., emergencies) for them to interrupt you, and when they'll just have to wait for for your attention (e.g., a non-functioning remote control). Maybe you want to line up a play date so they aren't bored and seeking your attention. If not, remind them of some independent play activities that they enjoy. And if possible make a little time to play too. After all spending time with your kids is one of the perks of working at home!
