The deadline for companies to send out 1099-Misc tax forms has come and gone. It was January 31, 2013. But I'm still missing one. This happens almost every year, so I'm not too bothered...yet. I'm pretty sure it will arrive within a day or two. But I've had to get a 1099 corrected before too. That's actually tougher than he one that doesn't arrive on time!
The problem with being an independent contractor is that, so often, you are at the bottom of everyone's to do list. Your contact at the company is rarely the person who actually handles your invoices and tax forms. They simply pass them on to another department.
This particular 1099 could be more complicated because the company issuing it changed hands during the year. I can see that tracking down this could end up being just another one of those unscheduled, time-consuming tasks. But I'm going to be patient for now.
