I know that I may sound overly specific, highlighting jigsaw puzzles that only have 100 pieces, but I have my reasons. And they mostly have to do with the inconvenience of having a 1,000-piece puzzle taking up valuable dining-room table real estate for long periods of time.
But all in all, these puzzles meet my criteria for a good toy. So, I'm placing the lowly 100-piece jigsaw puzzle in my "Good Toys" spotlight and making my case.
They a remarkably versatile; the ones on my list are good for kids ages 4 to 12 with interests in just about anything. They can be done in a relatively short period of time. Older kids can actually make a race out of them; younger kids can feel success quickly (i.e. before they lose interest). And, unlike big puzzles, they'll get reused.
