The Diversity of Home Call Center Jobs

Work-at-home call center jobs are not a one-size fits all proposition. There are bilingual call center jobs, sales or telemarketing jobs, technical support jobs and customer service jobs that can be done from a home office. And within those jobs there are often different types of positions, such as independent contractor or telecommuting employee. The pay may be hourly, or it may be by the minute of talk time or by the call.  Hours might be weekends and late nights or strictly business hours.

In the past, companies might have chosen to outsource call centers overseas, but now instead of offshoring many are homeshoring. And that has given birth to a growing trend toward virtual call center jobs. And as more companies give the work-at-home agent model a try, a greater variety of home call center jobs becomes available.

One company Arise Virtual Solutions sets up a very different call center model for its agents than most other call centers. And many of the stories posted by Arise agents here point to problems they encountered with that model after joining.

So before you start with a home call center job, carefully research to be sure that this company fits with your needs. The whole point of working at home is to achieve better work-life balance, right?

I know in this economy it's tough to be picky, but at least go into any new venture with your eyes open.

‘Work from home’is a new and demanding concept.Like call center jobs. transcription is also an ideal option for home-based entrepreneurs.Investment is minimal as there is no need to open an office. No commuting cost, no strategic location is required.

This is an interesting piece. JetBlue actually mantains a call center in Utah, and relies heavily upon stay-at-home-moms to handle their customer service. They say that they provide excellent customer service. The moms say, in turn, how much they value their freedom. It sounds like this can be a win-win.

Now the most common system used by call center companies is cloud computing (check here), which makes it technically much easier to deal with (not just with call center jobs anyway). I had a stint at this kind of job but I must say I gave up after a few months. Doing it from home is at any rate much better than having to sit in an office with some other 30 or more people all glued to the phone for 8 hours straight, that is just disheartening after a while.
