Free movies! That fits the bill when the kids are hot and bored, but you're on a budget.

Many movie theaters offer free family film festivals in the summer, usually on a weekday mornings. I guess the idea is to make money off concessions by playing to a full house rather than an empty one. Whatever the reason, these free movies are a great air-conditioned, diversion for kids, if you can work your schedule around them.
